When should we book a wedding cake baker?

If you want to work with a specific baker, it is best to reach out early, especially for spring and fall weddings. Small custom bakeries can book months or even more than a year in advance.

Do we need a wedding cake tasting?

A tasting is very helpful if you want to compare flavors, fillings, and frostings before booking. It also gives you a better feel for the baker’s style and process.

What is the difference between a cutting cake and a wedding cake?

A cutting cake is usually a smaller cake used for photos and the cake-cutting moment. A larger wedding cake may be served to guests, while a cutting cake is often paired with cupcakes or a dessert table.

Can we do cupcakes or a dessert table instead of a traditional wedding cake?

Yes. Many couples choose cupcakes, cookies, brownies, or dessert tables instead of a large tiered cake. You can keep or skip the cake-cutting tradition based on what feels right for you.

Does a wedding cake need refrigeration?

It depends on the cake, filling, frosting, venue, and weather. Warm weather and outdoor venues can create challenges, so couples should ask their baker and venue about refrigeration before the wedding day.

Who should meet the baker on the wedding day?

A coordinator, venue manager, or assigned point person should meet the baker. It should not be the couple, wedding party, or close family members who need to be getting ready or taking photos.

What should be ready before the baker arrives?

The dessert table should be placed, sturdy, level, and covered with linens. The baker should also know where to unload, where refrigeration is located, and who to check in with.
